Finding Warmth in a Cold Season

When Winter Feels Heavier Than Expected

We understand that winter, and the winter holidays can be a challenging time for many. Family and friend gatherings can bring up stress, overwhelm, or loneliness, and the shorter days can make everything feel a little heavier.

The Emotional Landscape of Winter

As the days grow shorter and the world around us slows down, many of us notice our inner worlds shifting, too. Winter can offer moments of coziness and comfort, yet it may also bring a sense of weight, heaviness, loneliness, or overwhelm. Holiday gatherings may awaken grief, unspoken expectations, or the pressure to show up in ways that don’t match how we’re truly feeling. For some, it may also stir up familiar patterns in us that evoke a sense of immensity—a particular ache.

If you’re experiencing low mood, exhaustion, or a sense of disconnect, you’re not alone. Winter sadness is a common experience, more common than we talk about. The reduction in sunlight affects our energy levels and emotions, and the season often introduces unique stressors that influence our relationships, routines, and sense of identity.

How Therapy Can Support You This Season

In my work, I support clients in slowing down and tuning in to what their bodies, emotions, and inner parts are trying to communicate. My approach is gentle and collaborative – grounded in emotional regulation, curiosity, and in creating a space where you can feel understood.

Together, we can explore:

  • Coping with seasonal stress, burnout, or low mood

  • Understanding and soothing parts of you that feel overwhelmed

  • Navigating family dynamics, cultural expectations, and emotional triggers

  • Setting boundaries that protect your energy and sense of self

  • Grounding and reconnecting with your body

  • Building gentle routines that support rest and regulation

You don’t need to carry everything alone this winter.

Accessible Support for a Softer Winter

To make support more accessible, I’m offering $35/50 minutes counselling sessions throughout the season.

If this resonates with you, a softer, steadier winter is possible. You don’t have to get there alone. I’m here with you.
