MEET Lakshmi Nair (She/Her)
Hello,
My name is Lakshmi (she/her), and I’m a counselling intern completing my Master of Counselling at City University. Having spent years in community mental health, I aim to offer a supportive and empathetic presence in therapy, informed by my experience walking alongside individuals through their intricate and multifaceted journeys.
When I’m not in session, you can usually find me caring for my many beloved houseplants (I’m a proud plant mom), spending time in nature or with loved ones, exploring new foods, and engaging in various forms of movement. Having been trained in the Indian classical dance form of Bharatanatyam, I continue to seek movement to help me stay grounded and connected to my body, self-expression, presence, and identity.
I approach my work with warmth and collaboration to create a space where you feel safe, empowered, and genuinely supported. I believe healing begins in relationship—when we feel truly seen, heard, and met with care.
My practice is guided by curiosity, trust, and a deep respect for your unique story. I believe every person brings a rich tapestry of experiences, identities, and challenges to therapy. As a second-generation South Asian immigrant, I understand how culture and belonging shape how we see ourselves and relate to others. My journey through questions of identity, culture, and mental health has taught me that healing begins with understanding, learning to live in alignment with who we are, and embracing the full complexity of our stories. I’m especially passionate about supporting individuals who have been marginalized—whether by systems, identity, or experience—and creating space that honours your voice and goals on your own terms.
I work from a relational, multicultural, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed perspective. I recognize the power of human connection and how our nervous system can carry the weight of stress and past pain. I’m also mindful of how our unique intersections shape our experiences, and I aim to weave in techniques and strategies that support you and your needs, wherever you are. Whether you’re working through mental health challenges, exploring your identity, or striving for personal growth, I’m here to walk alongside you.
Wherever you are in your journey, you deserve to be supported in your healing. I’m here to meet you there.
