What is LENS Neurofeedback and how does it help?

Low Energy Neurofeedback Systems (LENS) is a therapy introduced by Dr. Ochs to regulate the central nervous system. It is also called EEG Biofeedback & is based on electrical brain activity. LENS works by mirroring back our own brain waves, which helps increase & reorganize neural connections.

LENS Neurofeedback is non-invasive, and FDA approved therapy for self-regulation. Research show that physical and emotional trauma lends to suppression in our brain. LENS works to lift this suppression for optimal brain performance.

What does a LENS session look like?

LENS is an in-person treatment. We apply sensors to the scalp with an unscented laboratory wax. We use computer software to process the client’s brainwave activity & mirror it back to the client’s brain through the sensors. We map the brain waves & the suppression at the 21 head sites in the computer software.

In the first LENS session, we perform a clinical assessment based on your self-report clinical questionnaire to tailor your treatment. In the subsequent sessions you are asked to rate your top ten areas of distress or struggle, & then we provide the LENS treatment. The subsequent sessions can be brief for 30 minutes, or you can book a subsequent session with a check in, or with counselling.

How will I feel during and after LENS?

Most clients do not feel anything in the session. Highly discerning clients report a slight tingling sensation, a neural opening, or the feeling as if stress is leaving their body. It is also possible that you start to feel more clarity, feel less tension, or see more depth after your LENS treatment.

After your LENS treatment;

After your LENS treatment you may notice symptoms you have had in the past pop up and dissipate as your nervous system is healing itself. A gentle reminder that you can support your treatment results by hydrating about 2 litres of water a day & being mindful about alcohol & substance use. As our brain optimizes, we may need less caffeine or medication for daily functioning. 

 

As our neural suppression lifts, our brain and physiology often become more sensitive to electronic devices. It is recommended that you keep electronics 6 to 10 feet away from your brain during sleep after your LENS treatment.

How often do I book my LENS sessions?

In the beginning it is recommended that you book weekly LENS sessions for optimal results. After you have had 5-8 sessions, we will assess your goals and tailor your treatment plan.
