MEET Simran (She/Her)

Hi, I am Simran,

I use she/her pronouns and am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) at Solidarity Therapy.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.

I hold a Master of Counselling Psychology degree from Yorkville University. I focus on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) approaches to work with trauma and other mental health concerns.

In my spare time I enjoy going for walks, reading, and watching movies.

As a therapist, I create a safe and welcoming space to guide you through your mental health journey while exploring the issues you are facing. My approach to counselling is through a culturally inclusive and trauma-informed lens.

I also enjoy working with youth for many reasons. Some which include personal life experiences, my personality, and the need to help others. I remember when I was a youth myself, how challenging it was to understand my mental health and find support that I connected with.

Providing a safe space for you to develop your voice and take control of your mental well-being is what we offer here at Solidarity Therapy. I want to work with youth to build a therapeutic relationship and create lasting change for those struggling with mental health concerns.

I use a variety of techniques and theoretical frameworks in my work to support individuals in developing skills and strategies that are practical and creative.

In addition to these approaches to counselling, I am also trained in:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): focuses on how an individual’s thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes affect their feelings and behaviours. You’ll learn skills around managing your emotions, coping with problems or distress, acceptance, mindfulness, and building relationships with others.

  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT): is based on CBT with focus on emotional social aspects. DBT is an evidence-based approach to help individuals regulate emotions teaches you that your experiences are real and accept who you are. The relationship between you and your DBT clinician is very important.

  • EMDR Basic Training (in progress): leads you through a series of bilateral (side-to-side) eye movements. EMDR is designed to reduce symptoms of unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain by using its natural healing process.

I believe having a counsellor to work alongside you through your journey can be an empowering experience. It would be an honor to support you on your journey. I look forward in connecting with you!
